A hershey bar abandoned on a pork rinds display

I was just thinking that, outside of work, that I've spent more time at home this year than I ever have. I suppose that is what happens when you get old. Even going to the grocery store becomes an event.

I thought I was going to the store alone again tonight for the Sunday shop but Anthony changed his mind at the last minute and he came with me. We ate at Culver's and then hit Walmart Neighborhood Market.

He made a joke today that I get a little too excited when I find misplaced items to take a picture of. I find the random nature of things left where they aren't supposed to be pretty amusing.

Anthony's dinner at Culver's.
He ate a 20 piece McNuggets earlier in the day and several candy bars so he ate light.

Almost my age.... almost.

Cheddar Bacon Pasta Salad
I decided to try this in lieu of potato salad this week.
Can't go wrong with cheddar and bacon in anything.

Pillsbury Halloween Funfetti Cake Mix with candy bits
If this could be made into a costume, I'd wear it.

Egg rolls left with the lemonade.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Energy drink left on this cracker display.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Acrylic French Nails left on a soda display.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

A can of Ol' Roy dog food left with the dry dog food.

A candy bar left on a display of Pork Rinds.
(a stoner's idea of delicious)
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

A two-fer: A potato wedge and a box of beef broth mix
left on a soda cooler case at the check out.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Garbage bags left on the candy display at the check out.
Gosh, someone could mistake that for candy.

The Big 5-0 thousand

I experienced a milestone moment (for me) recently: @whatsuptucson, the Twitter account I have that is largely Tucson informational based, hit 50,000 followers. It's been seven years in the making.

It's a Twitter that posts car crashes and crime incidents around town, plus lost and found pets, and some other local stuff of note. I also do radio segments on 104.1fm and 106.3fm on Fridays highlighting local events to go see and do each weekend branded with @whatsuptucson.

The account has one of the largest Twitter followings in the Tucson area. For a metropolitan area of approximately one million, that's five percent of the population. I read once that it's tougher to get numbers of size on Twitter because the total audience is smaller than Facebook but I prefer Twitter for a few reasons. The biggest one is that unlike Facebook pages, unless you pay Facebook to promote your page, a post on FB typically is seen by about ten percent of the people who have liked the page. That restriction is not in place on Twitter.

So, it's rah rah rah for me. And thanks to anyone who has ever followed @whatsuptucson. It's a lot of hard work and you make it worthwhile.

As far as a typical Sunday, I went to the grocery store alone tonight because Anthony wanted to catch up on watching TV. He always says he's going to make a dent in watching what he's saved on TiVo but he's got over a thousand hours of shows on the drive and never makes a dent. I gave up a long time ago wanting to record anything because he immediately wants me to watch whatever it is so he can delete it. Then, he can record more shows he won't watch. I've never met anyone who wants to watch TV more than he does. He'd never leave the house if he could work it out, it would be him in his recliner in his underwear 24/7 staring at the screen and talking to the characters on the shows (who can't seem to hear him, imagine that). As for me, I am a part of creating TV for people to watch but don't watch that much really. I like the process of the creation and management of TV programming far more than the actual watching. Go figure.

Gourmet dinner for Ken tonight: Taco Bell bean burrito
Not exciting to look at but it sure is tasty
which sounds like a date I've had.

No I in team and no V in CVS

This weekend was pretty standard. I say that often, but it was. The usual menu of yard work, eating a burrito from Paco's at Grant and Craycroft, Sunday night dinner, and grocery shopping.

Anthony is still getting over the flu so I went and did the Sunday evening stuff alone. I was out of honeybuns so the grocery store trip couldn't wait.

Anthony and I did sit and watch a rather bizarre documentary on Saturday night called "Holy Hell". It's the story of a cult and the nut job who has run it for decades. It turned out to be spiritual enlightenment in the beginning, but really it's more about the weird gay sexual manipulation the guy who runs it puts his young male members through. I've never understood the attraction cults have for the people who join them, which probably explains why I've never joined one.

I'd attempt to liken working in broadcast media to being a member of a cult except nobody wants to have gay sex with me at work. So, it's pretty easy to separate the two.

Dinner at Arby's with no one in the booth to eat with.
I did take two of these sliders home to Anthony so he could
have something for breakfast tomorrow.

A lovely sunset was happening when I walked out of Arby's
as seen looking west over Bark Avenue Dog Wash

Daredevil Boneless Wyngz at Walmart Market
"Turn Up The Burn" is a warning to your butthole.

Great Value Donut Cheeseburger
The romantic lighting on the box indicates
that eating these will get you laid.

A bag of candy left on the small soft ice substitute.

Stopped at the Speedway and Camino Seco Circle K
on my way home from the grocery store.
Just like there's no "I" in team, I noticed that
there's no "V" in CVS across the street.

Anatomy of a hurricane in Tucson

We dealt with the remnants of Hurricane Newton this week in Tucson. We're far away from water so we don't get a real hurricane, but the storm systems sometimes make it up here from hurricanes that make landfall off of Baja California (the west coast of Mexico).

Lots of humidity, lots of rain, a little wind. It caused some minor street flooding and puddles in my backyard.

We will rebuild.

Rain falling over the foothills north of Tucson
as seen looking north from Speedway and Kolb

It's faint, but you can see a rainbow
over my neighbor's house to the east

Rain from Hurricane Newton caused puddles in my backyard

Another puddle

And, another puddle

And, even more puddle(s)

This house doesn't have gutters so water just
falls off the roof when it rains

Looking north from the backyard and low clouds
completely obscured the mountains
I usually call a hurricane a "HurriKEN" and when I did that
on Facebook, my friend Jacque made me this graphic and posted it.
Funniest thing I'd seen in a while.
Watch out for a HurriKEN, it makes everyone wet.

Playing bingo with the plague and a crescent moon over Taco Bell

Labor Day weekend was nice.

Saturday I puttzed (is that a real word?) around the house, then in the evening I went with Anthony to play bingo at Casino Del Sol. We didn't win, and Anthony was coming down with the flu so the table area around his bingo machine was covered with cold and flu over the counter stuff.

Sunday I went to dinner at Taco Bell alone since Anthony was sick, as well as the grocery store.

Monday I did some yard work and slept in. I do have some love for three day weekends. Unfortunately, I only get a few every year so I appreciate them when they do come around.

Photos from the weekend:

The fancy new electronic bingo machines at Casino Del Sol.
All that technology and I still didn't win.

Anthony brought a stash of flu fighting materials.
All that technology and he still got sicker.

He mixed up some purple stuff
when he should have had Sunny D.

Cat Butt Magnets at Target.
I learned something today:
Cat Butt Magnets translates to "derrieres de chat"
in some foreign language I can't speak.

Velveeta products in the freezer section of the grocery store.
The stuffed grilled cheese on the right looks like
a Hot Pocket full of cheese.
All that technology and this is all we get for $4.76

Rico's Condensed Cheddar sauce on clearance.
It's aged and on sale... can't go wrong.
Might use it inside of a Hot Pocket.

A sign of fall: Pumpkin Spice Oreo cookies.
Another sign of fall: The chill of crisp 100 degree air in Tucson.

They ran out of Honey Buns!
Sign of the apocalypse!
Noooooooooooo!
