I ran across an interesting article written by the Associated Press regarding cell phone trends. Here are some stats from the article:
The United States has 270 million cell phone subscribers. Population of U.S. is 305 million. 88% of Americans have cell phones. (wow, that's staggering in itself)
Average number of texts sent per cell phone user in 2007: 188
Average number of texts sent per cell phone user in 2008: 407 (more than double!)
Average number of texts on Ken Carr's phone each month: 4,000 (I'm not kidding!)
Average length of a cell phone call declined last year to 2.3 minutes. That's the lowest since the 1990's when text messaging wasn't really available on phones. More texting has meant less phone calls.
Average cell phone bill remained steady at about $50.
One other stat for this post: Average teenage cell phone user sends 2,000 text messages a month. (I kick teens asses in this department by double!)
What does this all mean? Its an interesting trend. Text message use is exploding. If you aren't texting, you're either 1.) Unable to type on those little tiny keys on your phone or 2.) Refusing to do things everyone else does or 3.) Unwilling to talk to other people because you're a meanie like the cat lady on the corner in the house everyone thinks is haunted.
C'mon. All the cool kids are doing it.
