"Avatar" debuted at it's expected #1 slot over the weekend. It grossed $73 million which is the second best December opening of any movie in history (behind "I Am Legend") and the best opening for a 3-D movie ever. A nasty snowstorm hit the northeast this weekend which may have made its numbers lower than they could have but still a successful opening.

1.) "Avatar" - $73 million
2.) "The Princess and the Frog" - $12.2 million
3.) "The Blind Side" - $10 million
4.) "Did You Hear About The Morgans?" - $7 million
5.) "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" - $4.3 million
